We are a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to equipping adults and children who live in Inkster, Michigan with the necessary literacy skills to achieve their full potential. Over the past year we've given away more than 160 children's books to children from low-income families and raised community literacy awareness-great accomplishment but there is much more to do.
A National Institute for Literacy report shows 38 percent of adults who live in Inkster are functionally illiterate, compared to 20 percent nationwide. Children of parents who are functionally illiterate are at greater risk of being struggling readers. We are dedicated to increasing the literacy rate in Inkster, Michigan by providing new books, forums, workshops, and reading and writing tutors to low-income families in the Inkster area.
